A STATE OF INNOVATION

Paraíba has several poles focused on science, technology and innovation, such as Porto Seco, in Campina Grande, the Projeto Cooperar, which encourages rural development, and the Fundação Parque Tecnológico da Paraíba (PaqTcPB) a non-profit organization, serving as a pillar to support projects and industry programs.

In 2015, the state invested in expanding the fiber optic network that goes to the inside, in reviewing the legal framework for innovation and strengthening partnerships with emphasis on digital inclusion and productive population.

Integrated with this reality, João Pessoa Convention Center hosted in 2014 the RoboCup (pictured), one of the largest robotics world event, an event that aims at the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics, getting researchers and experts in these areas from different countries.

CULTURE AND TRADITION

João Pessoa is the third oldest city in the country, but is preparing for the future while preserving its past.

For being one of the two major cities of New Holland, along with Mauritsstadt (now Recife), the capital of Paraiba has vast and ancient historical heritage. Its rich cultural heritage is stuck amid folk dances, theater plays and various events coming from the popular imagination and creativity. The local culture is crafted in schools and universities as a way of getting students to know about Paraíba cultural expressions, resulting in them an interest to preserve the local folklore.

Easy access

Within minutes, you go from the beach to the city center and from the center to any residential neighborhood. The capital of Paraíba has well-designed streets and avenues, linking all parts of the city by a well signposted road.

TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

Public transport in João Pessoa is made, largely by bus lines. Most of the fleet has accessibility equipment and to routes where it takes two buses, the passenger has the option to go down and pick up a new one paying only one pass.

There is also a train line that covers most of the metropolitan area, with a length of 30 km, and has nine passenger stations, linking the cities of the metropolitan region of the capital.

The harbor is in the city of Cabedelo, in the metropolitan region of João Pessoa, being used to transport goods. It is also a passenger terminal, where moor mid-sized ships, cruises and various other types of vessels.

Air connections

The President Castro Pinto International Airport, located in the metropolitan and remote area 13 km from the center of the capital, operates regular national lines, with large planes landing structure. For smaller scale flight, the city has the Aeroclube in Manaíra neighborhood. This operates with private planes and jets and has signaled runway.

The state's coast has beautiful beaches and a structure that offers, in addition to shade and cool water, a variety of entertainment and cultural programs. The state traditions, together with the hospitality of the people of Paraiba, make visitors pass through here want to come back often choosing to invest in the region.

One of the oldest cities in the Northeast, Joao Pessoa brings together a rich collection of historic buildings, dating from the 16th century that chronicle the local people’s memories of streets and leafy squares. The capital of Paraiba is known as the place "where the sun rises first" because geographically it is the easternmost point of the Americas, in addition to being one of the greenest cities in the world, having two Atlantic forests reservations that keep its temperature at nice levels even in summer.

Gastronomy is a strong point in the capital of Paraiba. Although framed by a beautiful coast, the variety of its flavors and cuisine here is not limited to seafood and manages to bring together the best of all the wealth of food found in the state.

The delicious seasoning northeastern stands in revenues coming from the hinterland, the jerked beef, goat, cassava, rice milk, curd cheese, green beans and bottled butter. Following this, tasty fruit juices, such as hog plum, umbu and cajá. For dessert, do not forget to ask for brown sugar, sweet coconut water or some delicious sweet caramel.
